Care Ring to participate in grant project to expand opportunities for young families

"Young people are the workers of today and tomorrow. But those who become parents in their teenage years and early 20s, just as they are getting started in the world of work, are often confronted with a harsh reality: odds stacked against their ability to earn, learn and raise a family, which can threaten their children’s future as well as the strength of our communities. " - Annie E. Casey Foundation's "Opening Doors for Young Parents" Policy Report

Care Ring is partnering with Leading On Opportunity and 9 other local agencies on a pilot program funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Winer Family Foundation to see what is possible if you listen to the voices of young adult parents (ages 18-24 with children ages 0-3) to find out what they need to build healthy and thriving families and understand how the systems they interact with impact their lives.

Over the course of this year-long grant, the group, brought together by LOO, will listen and learn from young adults in our community, then based on feedback from these young parents and from learning from each other about what works for young families, aim to create and then seek additional funding potentially from Annie E. Casey Foundation to implement a new program to test viability.

Care Ring is uniquely positioned to participate in this grant project through our work with young families participating in our Nurse-Family Partnership program.

Other agencies participating in the project are: the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Central Piedmont Community College, United Way of Central Carolinas, Charlotte Bilingual School, Charlotte Works, Lakeview Neighborhood Alliance, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont and Winer Family Foundation. Against All Odds Empowerment Center also came to the table as an initial core partner.
