Care Ring hosts first-ever “Parents’ Day” event

Parents Day Guests 2

Care Ring hosted its first-ever "Parents' Day" event on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at Oakdale Elementary School to celebrate the mothers and fathers who participate in our maternal-child health programs - Nurse-Family Partnership and A Guided Journey. In prior years, the organization has hosted Mother's Day events, with fathers welcome to attend. This year, we wanted to make fathers feel even more included and celebrated by holding the event between Mother's Day and Father's Day and calling it "Parents' Day" to honor both.

The event was a big success, with over 300 parents and children in attendance. Guests enjoyed a light lunch from Publix, courtesy of Healthy Blue NC; family photos taken by professional photographer Daniel Coston against a lovely balloon arch by Nathalie Paz; balloon creations for the kids sponsored by NFP-CAB Chair Jamilah Espinosa; and games such as Jenga, giant checkers, and corn hole.

Gifts & Essentials

Parents and their children also enjoyed gifts of books from Promising Pages, customizable mugs, essential houseware and hygiene items courtesy of NFP-CAB member Raquishela Stewart, diapers and other goodies from Healthy Blue NC, cleaning supplies from Crisis Assistance Ministry, nursing bras from Novant Health, and baby clothing from Baby Bundles. Guests took home their gifts in bags donated by Atrium Health, Novant Health, and Care Ring's Nurse-Family Partnership program.

Winning!

The highlight of the event came when German Barriga from Healthy Blue NC announced the winners of the two $250 gift cards that his company had generously donated. Guests were given a free raffle ticket when they checked into the event. Congratulations to Amanda Avila (photo on left below, middle, with Director of Maternal-Child Health Sherresa Falls and German Barriga) and Twanasha Canty (photo on right, below)!
