A Night to Celebrate Charlotte’s Medical Community

Nearly 100 physicians, donors, Care Ring board members, practice managers, and clients of Physicians Reach Out (PRO) joined us for a celebration of PRO’s first ten years at Zebra Restaurant.

A glass was raised by PRO visionary, Dr. John Klimas, to recognize the thousands of physicians who answered the call to give back their talents and their time, to serve those in need through PRO.

Carolyn Scruggs, the tireless leader and original coordinator of PRO when it was first birthed at the Mecklenburg County Medical Society, received her own honorary doctor’s “white coat” from co-founder, Dr. Hayes Woollen.

Together, physicians from Novant, Carolinas Healthcare System, Carolina Asthma and Allergy, CEENTA, OrthoCarolina, Charlotte Radiology and many other practices collectively have now eclipsed $100 million in donated care to Charlotte’s working poor needing medical attention.

None of this would have happened without the support of countless community donors, including the Levine Foundation, the Duke Endowment, Mecklenburg Medical Alliance and Endowment, the Novant Health Physicians Impact Fund, and Mecklenburg County.

Sponsored by SunTrust, this PRO celebration was a moment to take stock in all that has been accomplished over the last ten years. A time for physicians to remember their original calling to the medical field to serve their fellow man and improve the health and wellbeing of all people in their community.
